Raisins… the Healthy Snack
Raisins look very simple but they are one of nature’s gems. Raisins are nutritious, high energy and low in fat.
Because raisins are rich in carbs, especially natural sugars, they give you a quick boost of energy when you’re feeling sluggish without weighing you down. A daily dose of raisins may also reduce your chronic disease risks. A 2013 review in the “Journal of Food Science” reports that eating raisins regularly is associated with lower blood glucose levels, reduced blood pressure, lower cholesterol levels, reduced triglycerides, increased satiety and lower overall food consumption.
Having a few Raisins every day is also good for digestion…they contain fiber and may help to relieve constipation. They also contain potassium and magnesium which help reduce acidity and remove toxins.
Raisins contain the antioxidant polyphenol phytonutrients which is an anti-inflammatory. It contains anti-bacterial properties which helps lower the risk of fever and kills the bacteria. The anti oxidants in raisins help in protecting the eyes by reducing the free radical action that weakens vision and causes muscular degeneration as well as cataract.
Raisins are a nutrient-dense food. They are one of the few plant-based foods rich in dietary iron, an essential mineral your body requires daily to make proteins that transport oxygen to your body’s cells.
