Metabolism Boosting Foods
Eating healthy foods that put your metabolism into overdrive is a great way to lose those few extra pounds!! 🙂
Your metabolism breaks down proteins, carbohydrates and fats to provide the energy your body needs. The rate your metabolism does this depends on the number of calories you consume, the number of calories you burn while eating and exercising, and the calories you burn based on your individual genetic makeup. Of course you’d rather burn fat calories but your body will burn fat only when it needs energy.
To keep your metabolism moving all day, you should be eating every 2-3 hours. Each time you eat, you stimulate your metabolism for a short period of time, which means that the more often you eat, the more you’ll increase your metabolism. By eating more frequently, your body doesn’t think you are going to starve it. When you skip breakfast, eating only a light lunch, then pigging out at dinner, your body stores fat as a safety net.Rather than munching mindlessly, make each mini-meal productive. Eat a serving of vegetables and a healthy source of protein like eggs, chicken or nuts. Upping your intake of high fiber and protein rich foods is one of the best ways to increase your metabolism.
Here are a few metabolism boosting foods you can try….
Egg Whites – Egg Whites are loaded with pure Protein and Vitamin D. Protein has been proven to burn fat.
Lean Meats, Chicken & Fish – Lean Meats are iron rich and a great source of protein. An iron deficiency slows your metabolism. It takes energy to digest food. Your body burns more calories digesting and breaking down protein than it does breaking down carbs and fats. Consuming a few servings of lean protein each day may help keep your metabolism going long after you finish eating your meal.
Water – Drink…Drink…Drink! Dehydration is your metabolism’s enemy. Drinking plenty of water will flush your system and keep your metabolism moving.
Chili Peppers – Chili Peppers are packed with metabolism-boosting Capsaicin and Vitamin C.
Coffee – The caffeine in coffee kicks your metabolism into high gear. Caffeine also jump starts Lipolysis, the process of breaking down fat. One to two cups a day is ideal….more could make you jittery.
Green Tea – Green Tea contains Catechins along with EGCG, which is believed to help burn belly fat.
Whole Grains -Whole grains encourage your body burn more fat since they are harder to break down than processed grains.
Yogurt – Both low fat and regular yogurt contain probiotics. This “friendly” bacteria may actually help reduce the amount of fat your body absorbs. Calcium is also your metabolism’s friend.
Cinnamon – Cinnamon helps blood sugar get into cells so it can be used for energy so less is stored as fat.
Broccoli – Broccoli is high in Vitamin C needed to effectively absorb the calcium we eat. Broccoli also has phytochemicals that boost immunity and protect against disease.
