Homemade Cough Drops

Cough Drops Page

Cold and Flu season is upon us πŸ™

Cough Drops are a staple in everyone’s house this time of year. Rather than buy them…why not make them yourself?!

Here is some great info and a recipe to help cure that scratchy throat and nasty cough πŸ˜€

Raw Honey is a great base for any cough drop. Raw, unpasteurized Honey contains antibacterial & antiviral properties. Some of the benefit of using raw honey will be lost if you use high heat to make your drops.

Ginger helps give your immune system a boost and has been known to help relieve congestion.

Coconut Oil is rich in antioxidants and antibacterial and antiviral properties for an added boost.

Cinnamon has been shown to help reduce Cold and Flu symptoms.

Thieves Essential Oil is my favorite πŸ™‚ It’s a fabulous combination of Β Cinnamon, Clove, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary. It has been shown effective in giving your immune system a boost along with being antibacterial. The scent is heavenly πŸ™‚

Ok…so now that you have some info…and believe me there is plenty more out there….I like these the best.

I usually use a silicone candy mold to make cough drops…seems to be the easiest to get them in and out of πŸ˜‰

Here are a couple that I’ve made…one uses heat….one doesn’t

No Heat:

  • 2 to 4 drops Thieves Oil
  • 1/2 cup Raw Honey
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
  • Whisk or Hand Mixer

I lean toward these because you don’t need to heat any of the ingredients which keeps the integrity of the ingredients.

Whisk the Coconut Oil in a bowl you can easily pour from…until it’s fluffy. Whisk in Honey until combined with the Coconut Oil. Stir in Thieves Oil.

Pour mixture into whatever mold you choose and place in refrigerator or freeze..20 to 30 mins. Remove drops and store in a glass container. I like to keep them in the refrigerator or in a baggie in the freezer πŸ˜€

With Heat:

  • 1 cup Raw Honey
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Oil
  • 10 drops Thieves Oil
  • 4 drops Lemon Essential Oil

Bring Honey & Coconut Oil to liquid over medium heat….about 15 to 20 minutes. Candy thermometer should read 300 degrees. You’ll have to stir frequently so it doesn’t boil or burn πŸ™

Remove from heat and let cool slightly…..stir in the oils….pour into molds. Set in refrigerator or freezer…Remove drops and store in a glass container.
